Beyond the Scene; Landscape and Identity in Aotearoa New Zealand'
Edited by Janet Stephenson, Mick Abbott & Jacinta Ruru
Published by the Otago University Press.
"If a country could be said to have a dominant national identity, ours would be landscape. New Zealand’s spectacular natural landscapes pervade the media, seen between the pages of glossy coffee table books and on screen as the setting for blockbuster movies. But are these scenes the landscapes that define us? In 'Beyond the Scene', Editors Janet Stephenson, Jacinta Ruru and Mick Abbott asked eleven contributors to choose a landscape that was important to them, and to write about that place from the perspective of their life experience or discipline. From farming to film, geography to law and landscape architecture to poetry, a range of diverse voices have their say."
Venue: Oceania Room, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa
Time:6.00 pm, Thursday 15th April
